Robert Atkins returns to Edisto Island Museum

Robert Atkins is originally from Pensacola, Florida, but now resides in the Augusta, Georgia, area with his wife, Jackie. He began drawing at the age of five, and his first paint set consisted of black and white shoe polish. His brushes came from a paint-by-number paint set.
After high school, Atkins was awarded scholarships to attend Wiley College in Texas, which is one of the oldest historically Black colleges west of the Mississippi. At Wiley, he studied art and business management, and when he graduated, he went into the Marine Corps. He then moved back to Florida, and all the while, Atkins continued to study and work to improve his art.
His works are included in private and public collections in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Texas, Washington, DC, and North and South Carolina.
We were very pleased to have had Robert as our 2023 Edisto and Beyond Tour Artist, and are excited to welcome him back for an exhibit of his wonderful work.
